Jiufen [March 2018]
A morning meandering through the alleyways of Jiufen, in north-eastern Taiwan – originally a gold-mining town, built by the Japanese.
Photos taken with an iPhone.
Recommended: Allow a few hours to visit Jiufen and take your time to explore the alleys and lanes, sampling the street food (like mocha, fishballs, sausages), searching for souvenirs, and stopping at a tea-house for a hearty Taiwanese lunch or a tea break ( I would recommend the famous Ah Mei Tea House!). If it all starts to get a little claustrophobic, some lanes lead to a gorgeous view of the ocean and surrounds. It’s best to visit in the morning as the crowds appear around noon.
